Introduction

Santa Barbara is a city in California, close to Los Angeles and the ocean. It’s a great place to visit if you love nature, history, or culture. I visited Santa Barbara several times when I lived in Los Angeles and loved spending time there. Here are some of my favorite things to do when visiting Santa Barbara:

You can experience the sights and sounds of Santa Barbara from the beach

The beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the warm weather. It has plenty of shops, restaurants and other attractions that you can visit while you are there. If you want to see some sea lions playing, then this is also a good place to watch them do so.

Go on an art tour

Santa Barbara is a richly historic city, and the best way to get to know it is by taking an art tour. These tours will take you through the most beautiful galleries in town, where you can learn about local art and culture. Art tours are also a great way to meet other people—and Santa Barbara has some of the friendliest people around!

Visit a winery

Santa Barbara wine country is a great place to visit. If you want to enjoy tasting some amazing wines and learn more about the process of making them, then visiting Santa Barbara wine country is the perfect activity for you. Many different wineries in Santa Barbara offer tastings and other events throughout the year. Some of these include:

  • The Wine Train: This historic train ride takes passengers through California’s beautiful Central Coast Wine Country with stops at five unique wineries along the way. You’ll have access to an onboard full bar as well as gourmet food stations during your trip!
  • Hollister Ranch Winery: Enjoy award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines on-site, or buy bottles at their gift shop before heading out to explore their vineyard grounds which stretch over 150 acres! During certain times of the year, they also host special events like live music or even holiday celebrations so be sure to check what’s going on before planning your trip!

Take a hike in Santa Barbara National Forest

Hiking is an amazing way to get in touch with nature and see the local wildlife. There are so many trails to choose from, and each one is unique. If you’ve never hiked before, this is a great place to start! You could even bring your dog along for the hike if they’re up for it!

Watch the sunset on a bluff at Cabrillo National Monument

You haven’t seen the sunset in Santa Barbara until you’ve seen it from Point Cabrillo on a bluff at Cabrillo National Monument. This is one of the most popular spots for watching sunsets, with an excellent view of the ocean and city skyline.

Cabrillo National Monument is located on the tip of Point Cabrillo and has been designated as a “National Historic Landmark District” because of its historic significance to early California history. The monument includes three separate areas: Fort Rosecrans, Fort Stevens, and Cottage Canyon (which has been closed since 2017). Visitors can take guided tours or explore on their own; there are some excellent hiking trails here as well.

The park offers beautiful views year-round but especially during whale watching season (December through May) when southern right whales can be spotted feeding offshore near Point Conception over 100 miles away! If you visit between April 15th – September 15th look out for sea lions too!

Watch pelicans fly over the ocean

The most common wildlife in Santa Barbara are pelicans, who are large birds with a long beaks and a pouch under their beak that they fill with fish. They can dive and swim underwater to catch fish, often flying in large groups to find food. It’s fun to watch them take off from the beach and fly over the ocean; it looks like they’re dancing!

Look at the sea lions playing on a beach near Santa Barbara Harbor

You can observe the sea lions in their natural habitat by visiting the Santa Barbara Harbor. The harbor is located on State Street and offers a great view of where the sea lions spend most of their time. If you’re lucky, you might even see some of them playing in the water.

Sea lions are from an aquatic mammal family called Otariidae, which includes fur seals, furless seals, eared seals, and sea lion species. They are considered large animals with males averaging about 3 feet (1 meter) in length and weighing between 250-400 pounds (113-181 kilograms).

Males also have thick necks that bulge out when they growl at other males or show off during the mating season. So keep your distance! The majority of these majestic animals live along U.S West Coast shores between California and Mexico; however, there is also a small population living near Chile as well!

Enjoy Santa Barbara’s many beaches.

Santa Barbara has beaches for all tastes. The city is a great place to visit in the summer and there are plenty of beaches to choose from, depending on your mood. If you like sunbathing or swimming, head over to East Beach which features a sandy bottom with clear water perfect for swimming.

This beach is also dog friendly so if you’re traveling with your four-legged friend then this may be the best choice for you. Another popular beach among visitors is Arroyo Burro Beach Park which offers an expansive view of Santa Barbara Harbor and a wide stretch of sand perfect for sunbathing or strolling along its length. You can even rent sailboats at this location if that’s what you want!

If being surrounded by nature sounds more appealing than being near people then check out El Capitan State Beach—it’s only accessible by the trail so it won’t be crowded like other beaches around town…
